I received my introduction into the insurance profession through my father, Donald S Fulton, who though he began as an entry level underwriter, gained education and experience to be promoted to Northern California Commercial Insurance Manager of Farmers Insurance, the leading commercial insurance company in California. I had followed his advice in the beginning my career as a claims representative which he had stated from his own experience that training in claims is the single-most effective means to learning the insurance field.  In looking back, I must concur that he was correct as the education in learning the legal, civil, fundamental, and contractual principles of insurance is enunciated through the approach of examining claims. After beginning with this foundation I was prepared to become an agent and chose to affiliate with an agency developer/manager whose district was the Farmers national commercial insurance production recordholder. Capitalizing on the education and training I received I  was able to achieve the designation of Commercial Qualified Agent (A designation only about 1 in 10 Agents earn) by my third full year as an Agent. A leading type of commercial policy is in Habitational (Apartment buildings and Homeowner Associations), which Farmers led in CA, led me to pursue mastery of the field and soon I was able to secure an in-face meeting with the Board of Directors and property manager of a large HOA. After making a comprehensive presentation of my insurance proposal (which became accepted by the board), the experienced HOA property manager remarked, “That was the most professional presentation that I have ever heard”.  I went on to insure many other HOA’s over the years and to date have never missed out on obtaining an account when I made a presentation in person. Since that time I have continued to grow in experience in insuring many other types of businesses including commercial buildings, contractors, manufacturers and wholesale distributors.
